Course Description

Lawyers increasingly have to work with other professionals to provide the best services for their clients.  For example, lawyers frequently have to work with psychologists in family law and criminal law practice.  Students in this class develop skills to help them in dealing with these kinds of interdisciplinary situations. Attorneys, psychologists, and other professionals from the Madison area visit the class periodically to provide examples from their practices. The readings and class discussions give students a context for these examples, leading to a final research project in which students apply what they've learned to practical problems in family law. Topics include psychological and legal perspectives on difficult clients, on children and families, on violence, and on attorney burn-out.  One class session will be held at the Family Court Counseling Services.
