Course Description
This class examines the growing influence of human rights
discourse and international human rights law in the courts, and in Latin
American politics more generally. The emphases of the class will be on
understanding the changing role of courts in politics, as well as the relation
between national courts, the Inter-American System for Human Rights, and the
international sphere. We will also examine arguments that
America
will emerge from the class with a rich understanding of Latin American legal
institutions at both the national and regional level.
The course will be run as a graduate seminar, and students will be expected to
write a 25-page research paper. There are no prerequisites for this course.
