CROSS-CULTURAL NEGOTIATIONS PROGRAM
2 WEEKS – 1 credit of Directed Reading (Law 991) to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, at Thammasat University; approximate dates are January 6 through January 15, 2009.
The Bangkok program is open to 2L and 3L students at the UW Law School. Application procedure is below.
Program Information:
• Faculty from the UW Law School and Thammasat University (Bangkok program) or International Islamic University of Malaysia (Malaysia program) will teach this Cross-Cultural Negotiations class.
• The class will be graded P/F (pass/fail).
• A short (3 pages) summary paper is required at the end of the program in addition to a more substantive paper of about 15 pages.
• The text for the course, to be read in advance, is Bargaining to Advantage: Negotiation Strategies for Reasonable People (2d ed. 2006) by Richard Schell, available at bookstores and on the Internet (new or used).
• The course would be taken either as part of the student’s spring course schedule (Bangkok program) or fall 2009 course schedule (Malaysia program).
The cost per student is estimated to be about $2,200; participating students will receive $1,400 from the East Asian Legal Studies Center.
The
program is limited to no more than 10 UW J.D. students.
You
will need a passport to participate in this program.

Put together the following three items and either send them to skatcher@wisc.edu by email attachment (Word ***.doc; pdf for the transcript) or put in a large envelope (new or used) and put in the Center's faculty mailbox (near room 5016, across from Dean Robarts' office)

a cover letter that you have written, addressed to the East Asian Legal Studies Center, explaining why you would like to
participate in the program;
2)
a Law School transcript -- Request this to be sent to you by email and then forward it to the Center. Go to your MyUW website for information on how to request. There should be no charge for this transcript (unofficial);
3) your resume.
The deadline for receiving your application is by the end of the work day (5:00 p.m.) on October 20, 2008.
