Mertz will be honored along with UW Law alumnae, students

Elizabeth Mertz has received the annual Association for Women Lawyers’ Award for Mentoring Excellence.

Mertz is professor emeritus at UW Law School and a senior research fellow with the American Bar Foundation. An expert in legal anthropology, she studies law and language, with an emphasis on law school education.

The AWL award marks the second time Mertz has been recognized for her dedication to mentoring in the past year. Last December, Mertz’s Law School colleagues successfully nominated her for a campus award, the Doris Slesinger Award for Excellence in Mentoring.

AWL, a women’s bar association based in southeastern Wisconsin, will formally honor Mertz at a luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Three others will receive awards, all of whom are UW Law alumnae:

Two UW Law students will also receive scholarships at the event— Alexandra Abernethy and Whitney Ederer.
