Professor Adam Stevenson and attorney Edward "Ted" Bailey, both graduates of UW Law School, have won clemency for a Milwaukee man sentenced to 31 years imprisonment for a 1997 drug conviction.

President Barack Obama issued the commutation for Lavelle Span on May 5, along with commutations for 57 other federal convicts. Span was facing another 14 years in prison; his sentence is now set to expire on Sept. 2, 2016.
