Bonnie Shucha

Third-year law student Bonnie Shucha won the Morris L. Cohen Student Essay Competition sponsored by the Legal History and Rare Books Section of the American Association of Law Libraries.

Shucha, who is enrolled part-time at University of Wisconsin Law School, is also the assistant director for public services at the UW Law Library. Her winning essay, "White Slavery in the Northwoods: Early Sex Trafficking Narratives and the Reformation of Law in the Late Nineteenth Century," examines the 1880s-era campaign against sex trafficking that took place in northern Wisconsin.

The Morris L. Cohen competition is designed to encourage scholarship, and to acquaint students with the AALL and law librarianship. As part of the award, Shucha won a cash prize and the opportunity to present her paper at the AALL Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, this summer.
