Megan McDermott

Megan McDermott has been awarded the 2016 Warren E. Burger Prize for Writing by the American Inns of Court. McDermott, a lecturer at UW Law School, will formally accept the award in November at a ceremony to be held at the Supreme Court of the United States.

The Warren E. Burger Prize is a writing competition designed to promote scholarship in the areas of professionalism, ethics, civility and legal skills. McDermott’s winning essay, “Negotiating on Behalf of Low Income Litigants: The Distorting Effects of Model Rule 4.1,” will be published in the South Carolina Law Review as part of the award. She will also receive a cash prize of $5,000.

The American Inns of Court, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, is an association of lawyers, judges, and other legal professionals from all levels and backgrounds. The Inns have gained a national and international reputation as an organization that bridges the gap between formal law school education and legal practice by offering career-long continuing education in the Common Law tradition.
