Students enrolled in UW Law School’s Lawyering Skills Course took part in an intensive training experience during a recent weekend in April.

As part of the annual Skills Intensive Training Weekend, students worked in teams of two to represent parties in a simulated contract dispute case. Each team analyzes the case file, prepares correspondence to the client and a memo to the senior partner, argues a preliminary injunction motion, interviews and counsels the client, and attempts to negotiate a resolution.

Two experienced lawyers play the role of senior partners: this year, Jennifer Krueger ’00 of Boardman and Clark and Mark Pennow ’80 of Menn Law Firm volunteered their skills and time. Other area attorneys participated as visiting instructors.

The Lawyering Skills Program, under the direction of Gretchen Viney, is designed to help law students transition from the classroom to real-world lawyering. The weekend training has been part of the curriculum since 1992.
