U.S. News provides advance notice to institutions of rankings before they are released to the public. During this time, UW–Madison recognized a discrepancy in its data and reported it immediately. Initially, the College of Engineering was ranked 14th overall. It was amended to unranked status on March 30 due to the data reporting error. Departmental rankings remain unchanged. Going forward, UW-Madison is reviewing data reporting practices to ensure accuracy.

UW-Madison graduate programs are ranked among the nation’s best in the 2017 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools.”

“UW-Madison offers advanced study in a large number of graduate programs that touch almost every area of arts and humanities as well as the social, physical and biological sciences,” says William Karpus, dean of UW–Madison’s Graduate School. “This type of recognition is a reflection of the outstanding faculty, the field-advancing research that they do and the quality of mentoring they provide to our talented graduate students.”

Not all programs are ranked every year. View last year’s rankings.
