UW-Madison has canceled Tuesday morning classes, although campus will remain open. Classes with start times of noon or later on Tuesday will be held. Any instructor not planning to hold class Tuesday afternoon must contact students in his or her course.
Due to the wind chill warning in effect, the Law Library will close this evening (Monday) at 9 p.m. The Law Building will remain open until midnight.
The National Weather Service is forecasting extremely low temperatures, with a wind-chill warning currently running through noon Tuesday. For more information on ways to protect yourself from the cold, click here for cold-weather tips.
Students: Students are also urged to dress appropriately for the cold and contact instructors if they cannot safely travel to class meetings. In addition, students are encouraged to: Minimize time outdoors if walking across campus. For safety reasons, SAFEwalk is cancelled for Monday evening. Use any public building as a warming area. Use Mobile UW or the interactive campus map to plan the most efficient routes around camps.
With dangerous outdoor conditions, students should be extra cautious and limit their time outside.
Employees: In the event that employees cannot safely travel, they should notify supervisors and use paid time off for any absences.
Campus activities: Units, schools and colleges with plans for outdoor activities are directed by the chancellor’s office to reschedule or move events indoors for the duration of the severe cold. Any activity cancellations will be posted at www.wisc.edu. If you are cancelling a campus event, please email snow@mhub.uwpd.wisc.edu.
Building managers: Physical Plant staff will be closely monitoring weather conditions to keep the heating systems running efficiently and buildings on campus comfortable. Please check your offices, labs and other spaces to make sure that all windows and doors are closed and secured. If there are heat or other building-related issues, please call the Central Answering and Response Service (CARS) at 608-263-3333.
Commuters: An additional bus will be added to route 80 on campus on Tuesday. For more information on managing winter weather impacts to travel, visit the UW Transportation Services website.
Motorists: Employees who need assistance while parking in a campus lot should call their usual motorist assistance service (AAA, service station, towing service).
Some additional services are available in campus lots, including use of a mobile phone, telephone numbers of motorist services, salt/sand and a heated vehicle. Contact UWPD, 608-262-2957, or Transportation Services, 608-263-6666 for assistance.
