PASS/FAIL OPTION choice(s) for Fall 2017 are due Thursday, December 7, 2017 by 11:59 pm.

To be eligible to use the Pass/Fail Option choice, you must have earned 25 or more Law School credits prior to this semester, and have used less than two Pass/Fail Options during your Law School career. (Visiting Law students are not allowed the pass/fail option choice)

To choose the Pass/Fail Option for one (or two) of your Fall 2017 courses, go to the following Law School website: https://secure.law.wisc.edu/grades/pf/

After you log-in using your Net ID and Password, the site will show only your current courses for Fall 2017 that are eligible for the Pass/Fail Option. Follow all directions and, for full information on the operation of the Pass/Fail Option, be sure to click on the links for Read This First, Sec. 9.3 and Law School Rules 2.03 (Pass/Fail Option). Remember, you may choose a Law course as your pass/fail option choice only two times during your entire law school career.
Important: Taking advantage of the Pass/Fail Option may affect your eligibility for Dean's List and for Order of the Coif. See Read This First 9.7.2 and 9.7.4 along with Law School Rule 8.05 Dean’s List and Law School Rule Appendix D for Order of the Coif.

Mandatory pass/fail courses are only graded S or U. These mandatory pass/fail courses do not count as part of the pass/fail option courses.

You can go into the pass/fail option website to check if you succeeded in making your choice(s) for Fall 2017, or to check if you chose any courses from a previous semester as your pass/fail option choice(s). Look for these three things:

  1. Course(s) ELIGIBLE for Pass/Fail Option: (here it will list all of your courses that are offered as pass/fail option for Fall 2017 if you have not made your choice(s) yet). In order to request pass/fail, click on the appropriate button next to the desired course and confirm your selection in the resulting dialog box. Your request for Pass/Fail option can be canceled until the deadline of December 7 by 11:59 p.m. However, if you have already chosen a course(s) as your pass/fail option choice(s) for Fall 2017, it will only show your eligible courses (minus whatever course(s) you have already chosen as your pass/fail option choice for Fall 2017). To see them, go to step #2 shown below.
  2. Course(s) APPLIED for Pass/Fail Option: (here it will list any course(s) you have already chosen as your pass/fail option choice for Fall 2017) However, you can cancel it if you want to up to the deadline of December 7 by 11:59 p.m. That's why underneath it says: "In order to cancel a pass/fail request, click on the appropriate button next to the desired course, and then confirm your selection in the resulting dialog box. If canceled, your request for Pass/Fail option can be re-requested until the deadline. See individual deadlines listed after the courses."
  3. Course(s) PREVIOUSLY CONFIRMED for Pass/Fail Option: If it says: "No previous pass/fail confirmations found." (this means you haven't chosen any pass/fail option course(s) from any PREVIOUS SEMESTER) It will also list any course(s) you did choose as your pass/fail option choice from a previous semester if you have done so.
