niabi schmaltzNiabi Schmaltz, a second-year UW Law student, received the Dane County Bar Association’s annual Law Student Pro Bono Award on April 30.

Schmaltz, a student in the humanitarian track of the Law School's Immigrant Justice Clinic, was honored for her volunteer work with the Community Immigration Law Center and Madison Pathway to Citizenship. Laurie Greenberg, coordinator of Madison Path to Citizenship, nominated Schmaltz for the award.

Wrote Greenberg, "Niabi stands out as she is exceptionally professional, clear, respectful, poised, understanding, and non-judgmental in her work with applicants. She mature, reliable, and qualified. She has taken initiative to become familiar with the multiple forms required by the US Citizenship and Immigration Service--even those uncommonly used--so she is able to provide individualized help to dozens of applicants from many different countries seeking naturalization assistance."
