Brown Bag CLE Series

Michael Sosnay is an associate attorney with the law firm of Darnieder & Geraghty, where he has worked since 2006.  Attorney Sosnay’s practice areas include civil litigation, collections, creditor’s rights, bankruptcy, criminal and family.  He earned his Juris Doctorate from Marquette University Law School in 2006, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Public Administration in 2002 from the University of Wisconisn – La Crosse.  Attorney Sosnay has worked at the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic since 2004.  He and his wife live in Wauwatosa with their one-year old son.

Jason Mishelow is the Senior Attorney and Chief Financial Officer at Centro Legal, a non-profit legal services agency on the south side of Milwaukee.  A 2002 graduate of Georgetown University Law School, Attorney Mishelow has practiced family law for nearly a decade, serving low income litigants both as advocate counsel and Guardian Ad Litem.   For the past four years Attorney Mishelow has provided legal education workshops at social service agencies throughout the metro area and currently provides legal education as part of Milwaukee County’s “Pathway to Responsible Fatherhood Program.” Attorney Mishelow is a past president of the Society of Family Lawyers and a certified mediator.

Captain Aloysius (Al) F. Rohmeyer serves as a Judge Advocate for the 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Wisconsin Army National Guard.  His primary duties include providing servicemembers with timely and professional legal assistance in the areas of family law, estate planning, consumer law, and various other areas.  Captain Rohmeyer also serves as a legal advisor to the Commander, 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.  Captain Rohmeyer’s previous assignments include a 2011-2012 deployment to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian, a NATO peace-keeping mission, where he served as the Chief of the Legal Assistance and Claims Branches of the Multi-National Battle Group-East, Kosovo Force (KFOR) 15.  Captain Rohmeyer’s previous assignments include a 2011-2012 deployment to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian, a NATO peace-keeping mission, where he served as the Chief of the Legal Assistance and Claims Branches of the Multi-National Battle Group-East, Kosovo Force (KFOR) 15.

Lara A. Sutherlin is currently an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Unit of the Wisconsin Department of Justice (“DOJ”). She joined the DOJ in 2005 in the Civil Litigation Unit, later moving to the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Unit in 2006. Since that time, Lara has successfully prosecuted numerous consumer protection cases in a variety of areas, including debt settlement, pay day lending, predatory lending, telecommunications, deceptive drug marketing, as well as general deceptive trade practices in a wide range of business models.  Lara earned a B.A. from Indiana University and her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law. Following law school, Lara clerked for the Honorable Michael Melloy, at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.  Lara then practiced in Boston, Massachusetts for the employment and labor law firm of Pyle, Rome, Lichten and Erhenburg, PC, followed by work at another Boston firm, Shapiro Haber and Urmy LLP, where she specialized in wage and hour class actions.

Donal Demet has been practicing law since graduating from Marquette Law School in 1981.  In addition to his Marquette J.D., he has an LL.M degree in Taxation from New York University (1983).  His practice consists of about 60% litigation and about 40% transactional, primarily in the areas of:  probate; real estate;  non-probate transfers; trust disputes including breach of fiduciary duty; power of attorney disputes;  retirement asset disputes; life insurance disputes; and disputes between spouses and children from a prior marriage.  He has participated in the litigation of several reported cases, the most cited of which is Praefke v. American Enterprise Life Insurance Co., 2002 WI App 235.  His most recent reported decision is Estate of Shepherd, 2012 WI App 116, a significant will construction case.  He has been allowed to testify as an expert by several Wisconsin courts.  Demet has also been a visiting faculty member numerous times for the University of Wisconsin Law School Lawyering Skills Program, Estate Planning and Probate Section.  Additionally, he is an author and presenter for seminars presented by Legal Action of Wisconsin; Volunteer Lawyers Project.  He authored and presented the sections entitled “Real Estate Transfers at Death” in 2010, and “Transferring Property after Death” in 2011.  Demet was selected to Wisconsin Super Lawyers for 2008 and 2009, in the areas of Estate and Trust Litigation and Estate Planning and Probate. He is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell Law Directory.

Lisa Clay Foley is a Supervising Attorney at Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW), the federally-funded protection and advocacy agency for the State of Wisconsin.  Her team provides technical assistance and support to the state’s Disability Benefit Specialist program.  Ms. Foley also worked on the Community and Institutions team at DRW.  Prior to coming to DRW, Ms. Foley worked at Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee on the HIV project, at Children’s Court as a guardian ad litem (GAL) for children, and as a GAL for Watts reviews.  Ms. Foley also worked at Marquette University and Legal Action of Wisconsin.  She has a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, a master’s degree in management in health care, and graduated from the UW Law School in 1987.

Ann Laatsch is the Director of Legal Services at JusticePoint, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of evidence based criminal justice programs, practices and policies.  Ann was formerly the Managing Attorney for Disability Services at Community Advocates, Inc., where she practiced in the areas of Social Security Disability, public benefits, and health care. She was previously a Staff Attorney at Legal Action of Wisconsin, providing representation and advocacy to seniors on issues related to elder abuse, domestic violence, financial exploitation, and state and federal benefit programs. She is a 2005 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she worked for two years as the Public Interest Law Coordinator in the Career Services office. Prior to law school, she worked at Community Advocates for 10 years as a program coordinator and advocate in the areas of housing, W-2, public benefits, and Social Security Disability.

Ann is a former board member of Horizons House, Inc., the founder of the Milwaukee chapter of Dining For Women, and a volunteer with Sojourner Truth House. She is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Association of Women Lawyers, and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives. She was recently re-elected to the board of the State Bar of Wisconsin Public Interest Law Section.  Ann is also a registered yoga teacher.
