Biography

Sophie Crispin is a Co-Director of the Eviction Defense Clinic (EDC) at the University of Wisconsin Law School. The EDC is a fast-paced clinical program that allows second- and third-year students to gain firsthand experience working with clients, including drafting legal documents and advocating in court. As both supervisor and teacher, Sophie endeavors to create a learning environment where students can think critically about the the cultural, racial, and socioeconomic factors that impact clients' lives and experiences in court.

Before joining the law school, Sophie was a Senior Staff Attorney in the Tenants’ Rights Unit at the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) in New York, NY. While at NYLAG, Sophie both defended tenants from eviction and provided affirmative representation in actions involving tenant harassment and unsafe living conditions. Additionally, Sophie was a member of the NYCHA Defense Team, the first legal services team solely devoted to defending the rights of public housing tenants in New York City. Prior to working at NYLAG, Sophie was a Staff Attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, assisting clients with public benefits and post-incarceration reentry matters.
