940 Humanitarian Immigration Law
Erin M. Barbato is the Executive Director of, and Staff Attorney at the Community Immigration Law Center (CILC) in Madison, Wisconsin. Prior to joining CILC, Erin was a staff attorney with Catholic Charities, Legal Services for Immigrants, and practiced at a boutique immigration law firm.
Erin received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin " Madison and her law degree from Marquette University. Erin also studied Spanish in Madrid, Spain during her undergraduate career. Prior to attending law school, Erin volunteered as a teacher at El Centro del Muchacho Trabajador, a non-profit organization in Quito, Ecuador.
The Wisconsin Law Journal recognized Erin in 2010 as an Up and Coming Lawyer for her dedication to representing immigrants and pro bono service. In 2013, she received the Lee and Lynn Copen Family Justice Award from Women and Children's Horizons for her work with immigrant victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the Wisconsin Bar Association.
Erin teaches Humanitarian Immigration Law. In that class, under direct faculty supervision, students work on active cases involving: immigrant victims of domestic violence, serious crimes, and human trafficking; Special Immigrant Juvenile Status; Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals; and applications for asylum.
