Biography

John Nicholas Schweitzer ("Nick") is employed as an Administrative Law Judge ("ALJ") by the Unemployment Insurance Division of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development ("DWD-UI").  Nick is also on the panel of attorneys who serve as Supreme Court referees for attorney discipline cases prosecuted by the Office of Lawyer Regulation ("OLR"), hearing an average of one or two cases a year.

He received his law degree from U.W. Madison in 1985 and worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Rock and Dane Counties prior to taking a position as an ALJ with the Department of Regulation and Licensing ("DRL"), where he conducted hearings for many years on allegations of professional misconduct by members of some 70 licensed professions.  He has never practiced law outside of a government setting.

Nick was actively involved for many years as the author of case materials for the State Bar's high school mock trial program as well as for the national tournament in 1992, and he has attended courses at the National Judicial College in administrative law.  He started teaching Professional Responsibility as an adjunct professor in 2008.
