Biography

Katherine (Kate) Findley taught for several years in the Law School's Legal Defense Program before joining the Remington Center in 2007, where she teaches half-time.  Prior to joining the Law School, Prof. Findley practiced for three years as a trial attorney for the Wisconsin State Public Defender's Office, where she handled adult misdemeanor and felony cases, involuntary mental health commitments, juvenile delinquency and children in need of protection and services (CHIPS) cases, and cases involving the involuntary termination of parental rights.

Before attending law school, Prof. Findley interned as a paralegal at the State Public Defender's Office and conducted a pilot project which resulted in the statewide hiring of paralegals for the first time in the agency's history.

Prof. Findley began her teaching career as an adjunct instructor teaching Legal Research and Writing at Lakeshore Technical College.  She was honored with the Instructor of the Year Award for 2000-2001.

At the Remington Center, Prof. Findley supervises students enrolled in the LAIP project.  She also maintains a part-time private practice, taking criminal trial and appellate cases appointed to her by the State Public Defender's Office.  In her trial practice, she has cases in all of the counties in southwestern Wisconsin.  Her appellate cases give her the opportunity to appear in postconviction proceedings throughout the State.
