While in law school, Mike served as President of the Student Bar Association, and for two years he was co-producer of Law Revue, the law school's comedy variety show. At the end of his first year in law school, Mike won the George Young Memorial Award, and after his second and third law school years he won the Bruce Beilfuss Memorial Scholarship. Both honors recognized his outstanding service to the law school community.
Prior to law school, Mike worked as an adjunct English instructor at St. Cloud State University and hosted a free-form public radio show for four years in St. Cloud. He also hosted a blues, soul, and jazz public radio show for six years in Bozeman, Montana.

He relishes the opportunity to continue the tradition of enrolling high-quality, diverse law classes made up of bright, talented, and good people.
