Biography
Mullen Dowdal is a lecturer and the Director of the Law School's Mock Trial Program. Mullen teaches courses in evidence, trial advocacy, legal research & writing, advanced legal writing (contract and appellate drafting) and pre-trial advocacy. As Director of the Mock Trial Program, Mullen oversees approximately 40 students that compete in eight national competitions each year.
Before joining the Law School, Mullen was an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Wisconsin. Mullen represented the United States in criminal and affirmative civil enforcement matters including health care fraud, environmental litigation and enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Mullen previously taught at the University of Minnesota Law School.
Before the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mullen was in private practice with Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he represented plaintiffs in complex product liability and mass tort litigation including the State of Minnesota in its successful trial against the cigarette manufacturers in1998. Mullen's pro bono work has ranged from the successful representation of a Florida death row inmate to representation of Sexual Violence Center clients in Order for Protection litigation and enforcement actions in Minneapolis.
Mullen is a 1990 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School and a 1986 graduate of the University of California-Irvine.
