Biography

Michael Tobin has been Director of the State Public Defender Trial Division since 1994.  Previously he worked as regional  supervisor in the SPD's Hudson office (1986-1994) and as a staff attorney in the Shell Lake and Eau Claire offices (1979-1984).   

Mr. Tobin is the author of two updates of the State Bar's Criminal Defense Manual, a leading publication on the practice of criminal defense in Wisconsin.  He has been appointed by State Public Defender Nicholas Chiarkas as a member of the new Wisconsin Sentencing Commission.
 
Mr. Tobin is frequently a lecturer in Criminal Procedure at the University of Wisconsin Law School.  He is a member of the Wisconsin & National Associations of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
