Biography
Deborah M. Smith has been an attorney with the Wisconsin State Public Defender since 1980. She is currently the Director of the Assigned Counsel Division. She previously served as a staff attorney, regional manager, Director of Training, and Legal Counsel for the agency.
Ms. Smith received her B.A. with Honors from the UW-Milwaukee, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.She earned her J.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and is a graduate of the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University.
Ms. Smith is active with the Wisconsin State Bar and Inns of Court, and is a LEO program mentor. She is a member of the Board of Administrative Oversight for the Office of Lawyer Regulation and president of the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation Board.
