A tort is roughly defined as a civil wrong, independent of contract: liability for physical and emotional harms inflicted by intentional misconduct or negligence, or without fault. In particular, this class will emphasize liability for negligent actions or for products that cause physical or emotional harm. This course introduces students to tort doctrine, and to the tools of legal analysis. These include statutory interpretation and case law. The course also introduces students to some of the major approaches to legal analysis, including law & economics, law & psychology, law & morality, and law & policy.
