Course Description

As its name implies, the Seminar on Legal Issues Affecting North America and East Asia will focus on contemporary topics involving Russian or East Asia economic, political, social or legal relations with the US.

There will be an organizational meeting of the seminar on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 6:30 PM. The purpose of the organizational meeting will be to discuss the course requirements, especially the 20 page multi-draft paper requirement.

The seminar itself will have six sessions in a videoconference format with Far Eastern National University in Vladivostok, Russia. The first session will be on Wednesday evening, March 26, 2014 (Thursday morning in Vladivostok), beginning at 7:30 PM. The last class will be on Wednesday evening, April 30, 2014. Each of the six sessions will consist of an initial presentation originating in either Madison or Vladivostok and followed by questions and discussions from both sides. The seminar is conducted in English. The course will be taught in Madison by Emeritus Professor Charles Irish and in Vladivostok by Professor Natalia Prisekina. The course will be offered for 2 credits.

Because of the videoconference format, the class is limited to 12 people. If you are interested in the class, send Professor Irish (crirish@wisc.edu) an email explaining the basis of your interest.
