Course Description

An in-depth consideration of labor law/collective bargaining in the public sector with particular emphasis on Wisconsin.
Through speakers, discussion, readings, short papers and field trips, we will consider the role of politics, legislation, administrative agencies, tax law, human dynamics and pizza on public sector labor law. Issues to be considered will include the right to strike, interest arbitration, the duty to bargain, and the interplay between constitutional and statutory provisions.

Learning Outcomes: Students will
1. Have acquired an understanding of the essential elements of public sector labor law.
2. Have written concise and thoughtful analysis of a public sector labor law issue.
3. Have orally expressed an advocacy position on a public sector labor law issue.
