Jonathan Scharrer, director of UW Law School's Restorative Justice Project, and Walter Dickey, UW Law professor emeritus, have been named to a new statewide council on criminal justice reform. Dickey, who received his J.D. from UW Law in 1971, is also a former Wisconsin Department of Corrections secretary.

Governor-elect Tony Evers and Lt. Governor-elect Mandela Barnes announced the new Public Safety and Criminal Justice Reform Policy Advisory Council on Monday, Dec. 10. Their line-up represents people from all segments of Wisconsin's criminal justice system.

According to Evers, “In Wisconsin, African Americans are ten times more likely to be imprisoned than white people, and we spend more on corrections than on our entire UW System. Red states like Texas have passed comprehensive criminal justice reform, and I know Republicans and Democrats can work together to get it done here in Wisconsin."
