Giving Priorities

Scholarship & Financial Aid

As our state’s only public law school, we are committed to keeping the costs of legal education and student debt manageable, while bringing in great students who will become exceptional lawyers and future leaders. Keeping the costs of law school down allows our students to pursue the careers they are most passionate about, whether in law firms, business, government, or the nonprofit sector.

Faculty Recruitment and Retention

A key goal in the Law School Strategic Plan is increasing the tenure-track faculty to 35 people by 2026. This would require us to hire at least one additional faculty member each year, ushering in a new generation of scholar-teachers who are – or will soon become – national and international leaders in their fields. To accomplish this goal, we have set ambitious fundraising goals to generate resources that will have the greatest long-term benefit for the Law School and our students, and to assist the Dean in his hiring goals.

Reunion Giving Priorities

  • 1984 Class Scholarship Fund
      • To celebrate their 40th Class Reunion, the 1984 UW Law Class has set a goal of raising $198,400 to provide much-needed scholarship support. The group is halfway to their goal and wants to complete the gift by the end of the 2024 calendar year. Please join their effort and help them reach their goal. You can make make your gift online
  • Mike Hall Fund
      • A group of alumni have banded together to start a fundraising effort to honor Mike Hall '04, who formerly worked at UW Law in Admissions and later Student Affairs before retiring. In honor of Mike Hall's 20th Reunion from graduating from UW Law School, a student support fund has been created in his honor. The group's goal is to raise $50,000 by June 30, 2025. Please consider honoring Mike Hall and supporting UW Law students by making a gift online

Giving Societies

Benchers' Society

Donors who give $2,500 or more in a calendar year to any Law School fund or combination of funds become members of the Benchers' Society. Benchers' Society members receive invitations to special events, quarterly email updates from the Dean, and the satisfaction of making a tangible investment in the future of the Law School and its students.

Legacy Society

The Law School Legacy Society honors donors who make a commitment to the Law School in their wills. Legacy Society members receive regular updates from Dean Tokaji, and they are invited to our annual Dean’s Summit.

Through the UW Foundation, the Law School also can work with you to contribute appreciated securities, life insurance policies, real estate, personal property or deferred gifts such as bequests, testamentary trusts and life income trusts.
