NALP Employment Reports

*Information on employment outcomes for the Class of 2020 may not reflect a particular law school’s typical results in this area. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, bar admission exams were canceled or delayed in many jurisdictions, thus making it more challenging for graduates to secure employment by the annual Graduate Employment Status Date of March 15. Please reference the 3 years of employment outcome data posted on the ABA Required Disclosures webpage of each ABA-Approved Law School or at www.abarequireddisclosures.org.

Bar Passage Information & the Diploma Privilege

Wisconsin Supreme Court Rule 40.03 allows for the admission to practice by diploma privilege, rather than bar examination, of applicants who have been awarded a J.D. from an ABA-approved law school in Wisconsin and met legal competence requirements with respect to satisfactory academic performance and satisfactory completion of certain mandatory and elective subject matter areas.

Note that the bar passage data linked below does not reflect bar passage in another jurisdiction by those of our graduates who were also admitted by/applied for Wisconsin diploma privilege.  Many of our graduates who are admitted by/apply for Wisconsin diploma privilege also sit for bar exams elsewhere.  The small number of bar-exam takers listed (7 in 2023; 8 in 2022) reflects only that sub-set of our graduates who (a) sat for a bar exam but (b) did not apply for diploma privilege.

Section 509 (d)

A law school shall distribute the data required under Standard 509(b)(3) to all applicants being offered conditional scholarships at the time the scholarship is extended.

The ABA’s definition of a conditional scholarship is: “any financial aid award, the retention of which is dependent upon the student maintaining a minimum grade point average or class standing, other than that ordinarily required to remain in good academic standing.”

The University of Wisconsin Law School is approved by the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association (ABA), 321 North Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60654, 312-988-6738. Information about the approval process can be found on the ABA website, or by contacting the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.
