Request for Reciprocity

UW Law School Students or Graduates | Students or Graduates of Another Law School

UW Law School Students

A UW Law student or graduate may request reciprocity which may allow him or her to utilize the Career Services resources of another law school. In some cases, the reciprocal school may restrict the use of their resources, or deny reciprocity altogether, so it is best to investigate the other schools' reciprocity policy before applying. To find out the reciprocity policy of a particular law school, visit NALP's website at http://www.nalp.org, click on the term "Resource Center," then on "Toolkit for Career Services," then on "Reciprocity Policies."   There you will find a list that includes the complete text of the reciprocity policy of almost every law school. You will see that most law schools have a "black out" period in the early fall (typically mid-August until late October), when they are unable to grant reciprocity because of the demands of their fall on-campus interview programs. A grant of reciprocity typically entitles a student only to access to the granting school's job postings if the student visits that school in person; rarely will a student be able to obtain access to the granting school's on-line job postings.

Students and graduates should make their request to the Career Services Office at least 10 days prior to the planned visit. Finally, it is up to the requested law school to inform you of the status of your request.

To request reciprocity, please complete the following form:

Students or Graduates of Another Law School

A law student or graduate of another law school may request reciprocity with the UW Law School by contacting his or her law school's Career Services Office. The reciprocity request must come directly from that office.

The UW Law School reciprocity policy is as follows:

  1. Facilities and resources are available to current law students and alumni of schools which will provide reciprocal services to our students and graduates.
  2. Requests for reciprocity must be made in writing by a career services administrative officer.  They may be mailed, e-mailed, or faxed to us.
  3. The student/graduate must bring the letter granting reciprocity with him/her on every visit.
  4. Services are available for a three-month period, commencing with the date of the request. Reciprocal services available include access to current job listings, reference materials, publications and bulletins. Materials are available for in office use only. Other services, such as counseling and on-Campus Interviewing, are not available to reciprocity visitors.
  5. No reciprocity is offered from August 15 to October 15 because of On-Campus Interviews.
  6. Requests for reciprocity should be directed to:
