The Wisconsin Journal of Law, Gender & Society will host a symposium titled “The Threat From Within: Current and Alternative Response to Sexual Assault in the Military” on Friday, Feb. 21.

Law professors, military members and legal practitioners—from Madison and around the country—will gather to address what is being done to prevent sexual assault in the U.S. military and to help its victims.

“There is a great deal of dialogue surrounding this issue as an institutional problem in our armed forces, as well as its relationship to the problem of rape culture in our society,” said Meredith Hudson, editor-in-chief of the journal. "Our goal is not just to discuss a theoretical issue, but to connect this problem to practical solutions.”

She expects the symposium to be interesting to a broad audience—including law students and scholars, professors and students from other campus departments, military personnel and veterans services staff.

The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. Registration is free for University of Wisconsin students, faculty and staff.
