The University of Wisconsin Law School community mourns the loss of Professor Pamela Bridgewater Toure, who passed away December 27, 2014, following a lengthy illness.

Bridgewater Toure earned her LL.M. degree through UW Law School’s William H. Hastie Fellowship program. The title of her LL.M. thesis was “Slavery, Emancipation and Reproductive Freedom: Legal Stories in Search of an Integrated Narrative.” She served as a law professor at Northeastern University School of Law before joining the faculty at American University College of Law.

“Pamela was a law professor and activist lawyer with a deep commitment to promoting social justice. Her scholarship and social justice work focused on women’s reproductive rights and greater emancipation for black people,” said Thomas Mitchell, director of the Hastie Fellows program. “We will miss her deeply.”

A memorial service honoring her life will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2015, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Woman's National Democratic Club, located at 1526 New Hampshire Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20036.
