The Dane County Circuit Court’s first Hispanic judge is Juan B. Colas, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School Class of 1981.
Colas was appointed by Governor Jim Doyle to fill the vacancy on the Court bench created by the retirement of another UW law alum, Judge Angela Bartell ‘71.
Colas has served as an assistant attorney general in the Wisconsin Department of Justice since 1992. He has also served as legal counsel for Governor Tony Earl and in the Office of the State Public Defender.
Colas will begin serving on the Court in late February 2008. His term will end on July 31, 2009.
