University of Wisconsin Law School alumnus R. Thomas Howell Jr. of the Class of 1967 has been named Interim Executive Director of the American Bar Association, following the resignation of Henry F. White Jr.
Before taking on his new duties, Howell served as General Counsel of the ABA, a post he accepted in 2007. Previously, he was of counsel to Chicago-based Seyfarth Shaw LLP for ten years, and prior to this work, he served as Vice President and General Counsel of The Quaker Oats Company.
In announcing Howell’s appointment, ABA President Carolyn B. Lamm noted, “I know that Tom Howell, who has served the association for many years both as a leading member and more recently as chief legal officer, will ensure that the association continues to serve its members and the public through a transition to new leadership.”
