Keith Findley was recently a guest on a one-hour national radio call-in show in South Africa discussing the importance of DNA in criminal cases. Joining him was Chris Asplin, former executive director of the U.S. Commission on the Future of DNA Evidence.

South Africa currently has no legislation authorizing extensive use of DNA testing in criminal cases, or any program for databasing DNA profiles of convicted offenders for investigative purposes.

The radio program was devoted to discussing these issues as the South African Parliament considers legislation to expand the use of DNA as a tool against human rights violations—including political rape and wrongful convictions—as well as to enhance the nation's ability to solve crimes.
