Each spring, UW Law School celebrates excellence in teaching through its Teacher of the Year awards. The honorees for outstanding classroom, clinical and adjunct instruction in 2019 include:

• Howard Erlanger, Classroom Teacher of the Year. Howard Erlanger is Voss-Bascom Professor of Law Emeritus and Professor of Sociology Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he served as a full-time faculty member from 1971 to 2013. He has been honored numerous times for his teaching, and was also selected to deliver this year’s commencement address by the Class of 2020, his seventh time to do so. Erlanger’s areas of interest include wills, trusts, marital property, estate planning, and socio-legal studies. He continues to teach Trusts & Estates part-time.
  
  
• Tami Patel, Clinical Teacher of the Year. Tami Patel has been a part-time supervising attorney in UW Law School’s Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic since 2013. She has a dual degree from the UW, earning both a master’s in public affairs from Law Follette Institute and a juris doctorate from UW Law in 2001. Before joining the L&E Clinic, she practiced at Sidley Austin in Chicago specializing in tax law, and later for Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren in Madison.
  
  
• Steven Levine, Adjunct Teacher of the Year. Steven Levine is receiving the Adjunct Teacher of the Year award posthumously; he passed away in January. Levine, who earned his LL.M. from UW Law in 1984, developed and taught a course on Wisconsin administrative law. A past president of the State Bar of Wisconsin, Levine advocated for a diversity of thought and perspective within Wisconsin’s legal profession. He also supported extending Wisconsin’s diploma privilege to graduates of ABA-accredited law schools outside the state, as a matter of equality.
