Biography

Linda Sheryl Greene is Dean and MSU Foundation Professor of Law at the Michigan State University College of Law. Her teaching and academic scholarship focus on Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, Legislation, Civil Rights, and Sports Law. She received her B.A. in Health Education from California State University-Long Beach, her J.D. from the University of California-Berkeley, and a Certificate in Public International Law from The Hague Academy of International Law. She is a member of the California Bar. The American Law Institute elected her to membership in 1991 and inducted her as a life member in 2016.

Previously, she was the Evjue Bascom Professor of Law at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At Wisconsin, she also served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs with responsibility for faculty strategic hiring programs, including STEM women, minority faculty, dual career couples, and interdisciplinary cluster hires. She was also the inaugural Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the University of California San Diego.

Activities

Linda Greene participated in the discussion, "Antiracism, Education and Action: From Kenosha to UW-Madison," part of the UW's Crossroads of Ideas series. Joining her on the panel was Gabrielle Tielman-Fenelus, chair of the Black Law Students Association.
Linda Greene received the 2020 Game Changer in Leadership Award from the Black Women in Sports Foundation. The award recognizes an outstanding organization or leader such as a teacher or a coach, who is committed to using their experiences, opportunities and resources as an agent of change while mentoring the leaders of tomorrow.
Linda Greene participated on a panel of UW experts looking ahead to the first presidential debate in September 2020. The presentation, part of the Crossroads of Ideas series hosted by UW's Discovery Building, is available to view on demand.
Linda Greene participated in a panel on education at Boston University's "400 Years of Inequality: Breaking the Cycle of Systemic Racism," held on Oct. 18, 2019. The event was part of a national movement by schools of public health to engage in observing the 400th anniversary of Africans sold into bondage in Jamestown, Virginia.
Linda Greene participated in the roundtable session, “The Kavanaugh Confirmation: Thoughts on Sex and Gender Now that the Dust Has Cleared,” held at the Law and Society Association’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in June.
Linda Greene co-organized the Wisconsin Journal of Law, Gender and Society's 2019 symposium, "Race-ing Justice, En-gendering Power: Black Lives Matter, #MeToo, and the Role of Intersectional Legal Analysis." The symposium was held at UW-Madison in April.
Linda Greene participated on the panel “The Transfer of Legislative Power to the Executive,” held at Loyola University of Chicago in April. The presentation was part of the Loyola Law Journal Symposium, “Democracy in America: The Promise and the Perils.”
