Research Interests

  • Trochev's current project explores how political competition simultaneously helps and hurts judicial independence in post-communist countries. Drawing on the experiences of judicial reforms in Georgia, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan, it examines how and why politicians and business people choose to use and/or abuse judicial systems, and how judges respond to these pressures in the context of heightened political fragmentation.
