About Madison

As the state capital, Madison is home to the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and various state and federal government agencies, all within walking distance from UW Law. 

Wisconsin is an easy drive or bus ride from Chicago or Minneapolis, and major airlines serve both Madison and Milwaukee with frequent flights to and from the major hubs.

Prospective Student Visits

For students who have not yet applied to the University of Wisconsin Law School:

During the Spring 2026 term, prospective students are invited to join us on select Friday mornings for a presentation/Q&A and tour of the Law Building. We are unfortunately unable to offer class visits to our prospective students this semester.

To schedule your prospective student visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and include up to three dates (in order of preference) that you are available to visit based on the options below:

Friday Morning Visit (9:00 – 10:15 AM)

    • Friday, January 23
    • Friday, January 30
    • Friday, February 6
    • Friday, February 13
    • Friday, February 20
    • Friday, March 6
    • Friday, March 27
    • Friday, April 3

Note: Prospective Student Visits will take a hiatus in April and May and resume in June.

Applicant Visits

For students who have applied to the University of Wisconsin Law School and are awaiting an admission decision:

Our Applicant Visits are typically offered Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (CT), and include:

    • A 15-minute one-on-one meeting with an admissions counselor,* and
    • A 1-hour tour of the Law Building with one of our Student Ambassadors.
    • *Please note that this meeting is entirely informational and does not act as an admissions interview.

To schedule your applicant visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and include up to three dates that you are available to visit.

To best accommodate your visit request, please schedule at least one week ahead of your desired visit date.

Admitted Student Visits

For students who have been admitted to the University of Wisconsin Law School:

Our admitted student visits include:

    • A 15-minute one-on-one meeting with an admissions counselor,
    • A 1-hour tour of the Law Building with one of our Student Ambassadors, and
    • An optional class visit.

If you choose to do a class visit with your admitted student visit, available visit days/times are as follows:

    • Mondays @ 8:25 AM or 11:45 AM (CT)
    • Tuesdays @ 8:25 AM or 11:45 AM (CT)
    • Wednesdays @ 8:25 AM or 11:45 AM (CT)
    • Thursdays @ 8:25 AM or 11:45 AM (CT)
    • Please note that class visits are unavailable on Fridays, and some blackout dates apply.

If you choose not to do a class visit, we can typically accommodate a visit request for Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (CT).

To schedule your Admitted Student Visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and indicate whether or not you would like a class visit and provide up to three dates that you are available to visit.

To best accommodate your visit request, please schedule at least one week ahead of your desired visit date.

Waitlisted Applicants

For students who have applied to the University of Wisconsin Law School and are currently in "Waitlist" status:

Waitlisted applicants are encouraged to join us for our Virtual Waitlist Office Hours, offered every other Monday at 11:00 AM (CT) via Zoom.

Virtual Waitlist Office Hours (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

    • Monday, February 2

    • Monday, March 2
    • Monday, March 16
    • Monday, April 13
    • Monday, April 27

During office hours, waitlisted applicants will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an admissions counselor for 10 minutes to discuss any questions you may have.

Please note that this will be an entirely informational meeting and does not act as an admissions interview. To make the most of your appointment, we encourage you to come prepared with specific questions.

To protect the anonymity of all participants, students will be admitted into private breakout rooms in the order they join the session. Please note that you may experience a wait time depending on attendance.
