UW Law is excited to announce the creation of a Firm Giving program. This initiative will encourage philanthropy and engagement between local firms and the Wisconsin Law School.

Our objective is to build camaraderie within the participating firms, enhance alumni networks, and highlight each firm’s commitment to philanthropy.

About

How does it work?

UW-Madison Law School alumni at participating firms are encouraged to make philanthropic contributions of any size to any law school fund during the fiscal year of July 1 through June 30.

Firms will compete in a friendly competition to achieve high participation levels.

The virtual leaderboard will show progress towards the participation goal.

The top 3 firms will be recognized in the Law alumni magazine The Gargoyle and here, on the Law School Website.

What are Partners in Giving Ambassadors?

Each firm will have a partner in giving ambassador who will encourage giving among each respective firm and serve as a liaison between the firm and the Law School. Ambassadors will keep firms apprised of the progress to goal and circulate exciting news happening at the Law School.

With the help of the Ambassador, either the Dean or a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team will annually host gatherings (ie: breakfast or lunch) at participating firms with the intention of building affinity with the Law School.

Why is philanthropic participation important?

As our state’s only public law school, we are committed to keeping the costs of legal education and student debt manageable, while bringing in great students who will become exceptional lawyers and future leaders.

In 2022, 93% of incoming first-year law students received a scholarship, and the average debt for UW Law graduates that same year was just $48,419. That includes 36% of graduates who had no law school debt at all.

Keeping the costs of law school down allows our students to pursue the careers they are most passionate about, whether in law firms, business, government, or the nonprofit sector. Gifts from alumni and friends enable UW Law School to build on its rich tradition of excellence and innovation, while keeping costs manageable.

Private support helps the Law School attract a talented, bright, and diverse student body and offer an unrivaled portfolio of transformative learning opportunities for our students.
