Julia Walsh

Julia Walsh, a second-year UW Law student, has been named a 'Backyard Hero' by Community Shares of Wisconsin. Each month, the award recognizes two volunteers on the front lines of critical issues who make their community a better place to live.

Walsh was honored for her work as a legal intern at ABC for Health, a local nonprofit law firm. In this role, Walsh worked directly with Wisconsin families to connect them with needed health care services. She also put her legal research and writing skills to use by investigating how Medicaid Birth Cost Recovery policies negatively affect low-income families.

Walsh's position at ABC for Health is part of UW Law School's Externship Program. She will be formally honored, along with other 'Backyard Heroes,' at a banquet in September.
