Andrew Turner '08, co-director of Legal Analysis, Advocacy, and Writing, has been named assistant dean for the Academic Enhancement Program (AEP).
Turner started Aug. 26, succeeding Assistant Dean Moji Olaniyan; she served in the role since 2010 and retired over the summer. AEP is designed to assist all students in developing the critical experiences and skills necessary for academic success in law school and beyond.
“Law school is an exhilarating experience for most students but also a very challenging one,” Turner said. “I’m passionate about helping students embrace those challenges and grow to their greatest potential during their time at Wisconsin Law.”
Students may be familiar with Turner from his Legal Research and Writing I and II and Advanced Legal Writing: Contract Drafting courses. In 2018, he was named Classroom Teacher of the Year.
Before joining the UW Law faculty in 2012, Turner worked three years as a corporate attorney with a major Wisconsin law firm, focusing on general business law. He also practiced in health care, international trade compliance, public utilities, legislative drafting and internal corporate investigation. Prior to his career in law, Turner worked for a decade as an anthropologist in Bolivia.
Turner has two other degrees from University of Wisconsin-Madison: a master's in public affairs from La Follette School of Public Affairs (2008) as well as a bachelor's in anthropology (1993).
