Brian Cawley, a third-year UW Law School student, has received the 2020 Burton Award for law school writing. He is one of ten law students nationally to receive the award.

Cawley’s winning entry, “Damning the Mekong: Project Finance’s Inability to Cure the Steep Costs of Hydropower Development in the Mekong River Basin,” was published as a comment for a 2019 edition of Wisconsin Law Review.

This is the second year in a row that a UW Law student has won Burton honors. Last year Charles Ureña '19 took home the award.

According to the award website,“The Burton Awards are given to the authors of legal articles that demonstrate creativity, knowledge and know-how. While the length and subject matter of the legal articles are not limited, the winners will display a true understanding and mastery of the law and their writing must be clear, cogent and concise.”
