The UW's recent (4/20/02) migration from a POP e-mail system to an IMAP-based system has resulted in an unexpected problem. The new mail system no longer supports the APOP password authentication style, which is widely used throughout the Law School. If your e-mail program is set to use the APOP authentication style, you will receive the following error message when trying to check your e-mail. "Could not find the timestamp in the banner in order to perform APOP authentication." The solution to this, for Eudora users, is to go to the "Tools" menu and choose "Options...". Under "Categories," choose "Incoming Mail" and then change the "Authentication Style" setting from "APOP" to "Passwords."
