University of Wisconsin Law School Professor Howard Erlanger has been elected president of the Law and Society Association, an organization of scholars from many countries who study the place of law in social, political, economic and cultural life.This is the third time a faculty member from the UW Law School has been president of the Association, which was founded in 1964. Professors Marc Galanter and Stewart Macaulay held the post previously.
Erlanger will assume the office in June 2003.
