University of Wisconsin Law School Professor Richard Ross has won grants for conducting two research projects in legal history, one on Puritan jurisprudence in early Massachusetts, and one on common law in early modern England.

In Fall 2003, Ross will be a Resident Fellow of the Institute for Research in Humanities at the University of Wisconsin, working on a book project titled, "The Commoning of the Common Law: The Relationship of the English People to Their Law, 1500-1700."

Ross's second award, from the UW Graduate School's research funds competition, will fund the essay project, "The Midwives and the Morticians of Puritan Jurisprudence: The Law of Early Massachusetts in History and Historiography."
