Applications for admission to the University of Wisconsin Law School have increased by 39.6% over last year's total. The Law School received 3,211 applications for the Class of 2006. This figure represents 911 more than the 2,300 received last year for the Class of 2005.

Nationally, applications to law schools have risen an average of 17% in the same period.

"We?re very pleased with the response,"comments Admissions Director Beth Kransberger. "Last year we were up 17% from the year before, and we didn't expect the applications to be as heavy again this year."

Kransberger says the Law School is seeking to enroll a class of 250 ? roughly the same size as the target of other years. "Since we?re still trying to admit the same size entering class, decisions are even harder to make. We have an extraordinary number of applications from individuals who could come here and succeed."

Kransberger adds, "In addition, we have had yet another increase in the strength of the academic credentials of the applicant pool, which makes the decision-making on our part all the more difficult."

A significant number of admitted students have come to Madison to visit the Law School as they go through the process of deciding where to enroll. "Currently our admitted students are making their decisions," says Kransberger. "As is true at all other top law schools, we have offered admission to students who are also sought by other law schools."

The actual size of the entering class will not be known until April, when admitted students are asked to decide whether to accept their offers of admission.

The Law School has high hopes for this latest "best and brightest" class, Kransberger says. "We look forward to welcoming yet another extremely interesting and diverse class for Fall 2003."
