Madison's weekly newspaper Isthmus of April 4, 2003 featured a cover story on the University of Wisconsin Law School's Legal Defense Program, interviewing both Director Krista Ralston and supervising attorney William Carlos Weeden, as well as some of the students who participate in the clinical program.

The Legal Defense Program, a Law School clinical program founded in the 1970s, is devoted to giving law students hands-on experience in the defense of indigent individuals.  Professor Ralston calculates that one-quarter of the public defenders throughout Wisconsin are alumni of the program.
