The University of Wisconsin Law School conferred degrees on  270 students on the weekend of May 16 and 17, 2003. In addition to 234 students earning the J.D. degree (Juris doctor), a total of 36 earned advanced degrees (Master of Laws, Master in Legal Institutions, and Doctor of Juridical Science).

On the afternoon following the University's Friday night degree-conferring ceremony for the professional schools, the Law School held its annual Hooding Ceremony on the afternoon of May 17, at Monona Terrace Convention Center.  At this event, speakers concentrate on the field of law, and faculty members individually present each graduating student with their purple hoods, signifying a degree in law.

Keynote speaker for the Graduation Hooding Ceremony was Attorney John Rowe, a Law School and UW-Madison alumnus and currently CEO of Exelon Corp., the award-winning Chicago-based energy utility. Faculty speaker, elected by the graduating class, was Professor Heinz Klug.

Student speakers, elected by their classmates, were Molly Caprez, Joseph L. Olson, and Candace White Halverson. Master of Ceremonies was graduating student Stephanie B. Lovinger.

Music was provided by the Madison Brass Ensemble, directed by Sandy La Clair.
