The office of the UW Law School Student Bar Association was overflowing with toys in early December as a result of student generosity during the SBA's fourth annual toy drive for children of the Early Childhood Learning Center in south Madison. More than 150 toys were donated, to be distributed to the 84 low-income children who attend the center and other children who attend the center's annual holiday party.
UW Law School contributors included more than 100 students, several members of the faculty and staff, some recent alumni, and the Wisconsin Law Alumni Association.
Organizer of the event William Rosales, SBA Vice-President for Public Service , this year introduced the "adopt-a-child" system, whereby organizers could make sure that each child would receive appropriate gifts.
A thank-you note from the staff of the center told the students:
"The Early Childhood Learning Center staff, children, and families would like to thank you for your wonderful Holiday generosity. The joy you have brought into the Day Care Center and the South Madison Community is immense.
"Every year we look forward to working with the Law Students. We have come to appreciate the hard work and large hearts of all of you. The most impressive aspect of the annual Holiday event is the way each person jumps right in to help with whatever needs to be done with no questions asked. This is most evident when all is said and done . . . and it is time to clean up."
