Professor Gary Y. Okihiro, director of the Center for Race and Ethnicity at Columbia University, will deliver the keynote address at the University of Wisconsin Law School's annual Legal Education Opportunities (LEO) Banquet on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the Sheraton Madison Hotel.
Okihiro, who is professor of international and public affairs at Columbia, has titled his address "On Common Ground: Making Real the Promise of America." Okihiro is the author of eight books, including The Columbia Guide to Asian American History. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Studies Association, and is a past president of the Association for Asian American Studies.
The UW Law School's LEO Program will celebrate its 36th anniversary with this banquet (the 35th annual banquet). The annual event is an occasion for alumni and students to meet each other, to meet prospective students, and to recognize the achievements of current and former LEO students. One of the alumni who will attend is Attorney Michelle Behnke, president-elect of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Behnke will be the Bar's first African-American president.
The evening begins with a social hour and cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 7 p.m.
All tickets are priced at $30. A student discount price of $17.50 is available for students who buy advance tickets by the deadline of Monday, March 22.
