Brian T. Larson's Comment, "Meaningful Technical Assistance in the WTO," published in the Wisconsin Law Review in 2003, has won the 2005 International Law Student Association (ILSA) Deak Prize.

The ILSA Deak Prize is awarded annually to the top student-written Note or Comment on a topic of international law. It carries a $250 cash prize, in addition to a certificate which is traditionally presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of International Law (ASIL). This year, ASIL will present the award on Thursday, March 31 in Washington, D.C., following the presidential address from ASIL President James Carter.

The annual Francis Deak Prize is awarded to a law student for meritorious scholarship published in a student-edited law journal. The prize was established in memory of Francis Deak, former head of the international law program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and editor of American International Law Cases, 1783-1963, the first volume of which was published in 1971, the year before his death. The award is sponsored by Oceana Publications and made in the spring following the volume year in which the article appeared.

"This is a great honor for Brian and the Law Review," commented Gregory Shaffer, UW Law School Professor of International Law, in annoucing the news to the faculty.

The citation for Larson's Comment is 2003 Wis. L. Rev. 1163.
